Assembly analysis –
Testing of assemblies
What does an assembly analysis with 3DIMETIK involve?
Assembly analysis with 3DIMETIK includes the complete geometric evaluation of assembled multi-component systems in the real installation state using industrial computer tomography.
- Checking the installation position and position of individual components
- Analysis of installation space, clearance and gap dimensions
- Target/actual comparison for the CAD assembly
Why is industrial CT useful for testing assemblies?
Industrial computed tomography enables a complete, non-destructive analysis of complex assemblies that are not accessible using conventional testing methods.
- Visualization of internal components
- Detection of collisions and assembly deviations
- Complete 3D documentation of the actual condition
Typical testing tasks for assemblies of all kinds
- Check the installation position of individual components
- Analyze installation space and clearances
- Detect collisions within the assembly
- Evaluate gap dimensions and distances
- Check completeness of assembled parts
- Carry out target/actual comparison with the CAD assembly

Advantages of CT-based assembly testing
Industrial computed tomography enables a complete and realistic analysis of assembled components in their actual installed state without dismantling or damaging them.
- Testing of the complete assembly without disassembly
- Visibility of internal components and structures
- Complete 3D display instead of isolated individual measurements
- Detection of installation deviations and collisions
- Reproducible results for series monitoring
- Digital documentation of the actual state
- Evaluation of multi-component systems in a scan

How an assembly analysis works
1. CT scan of the complete assembly
First, the assembled component is scanned in its entirety using industrial computer tomography. This creates a high-resolution 3D volume model that digitally captures all components, including internal structures.
2. segmentation and geometric analysis
In the generated volume data set, the individual components are digitally separated from each other and clearly assigned. The geometric evaluation is then carried out with regard to installation position, distances, clearances and relative positions within the assembly.
3. target/actual comparison and evaluation
The analyzed assembly can be compared with the underlying CAD data. This allows deviations in position, alignment or installation space utilization to be systematically identified and documented.

Individual or series testing
with 3DIMETIK
Individual testing / project-related assembly testing
The individual inspection is suitable for development projects, complaints or specific questions in which an assembled module is to be analyzed in detail in its actual state.
- Targeted analysis of a defined assembly
- Evaluation of installation position, installation space and collisions
- Documented test report including 3D visualization
Series testing and framework agreements for larger volumes
The series test is useful for recurring assemblies where installation positions, clearances or installation space conditions have to be permanently monitored.
- Standardized test parameters for reproducible results
- Automated evaluation of defined inspection characteristics
- Economical implementation through framework agreements
