Reverse engineering is often used to create new CAD data for components and tools for which CAD data is not (or no longer) available.
For example, an older spare part or a damaged component can be revived using reverse engineering without having to completely redesign it. A tool that is currently going into series production can also be recorded and digitized in order to manufacture a new tool of the exact same design after its production cycle.
